Baugh Fell, Yorkshire Dales – Wild Camp #042

Time to tackle another one of the Dales 30 Hewitts. This one, Baugh Fell, stands at 678m above sea-level and is placed at #12.

This was a cold day and the wind was pretty relentless for the whole hike. There were so many false summits on the way to the top it stopped being funny very quickly. Before we reached the trig point my human had to detour to a small tarn to stock up with water. It took him ages as his hands were so cold that his fingers stopped working properly and I had to stand around in the freezing wind while he faffed about. I wasn't happy and let him know about it!

Once we had bagged the trig point my human made sure that we pitched the tent behind a wall to give some cover from the wind. Luckily the wind didn't change direction overnight but it didn't let up at all, in fact it only seemed to get stronger. As a result it was difficult to get to sleep and even when we did it wasn't for long as the gusting wind made sure we woke up time and time again.

It was just as cold the following morning and although the strength of the wind had dropped it was still very windy. As a special surprise we got some snow on the hike back to the car followed shortly after by a rainbow as we neared the end.
